O Ka Loa'a Hawai'i

I na makahiki umikumaeiwa kanahiku, ua noho au me ekahi kumu mo'olelo wahine, o Kali, a ua ha'i o ia i kona puke punahele "Hawaii" na- James Michener, no laila, ua heluhelu au ia ia a makemake au ia ia nui. I ke-ia mau 'o'lelo, ho'ike ka 'ano ka mea ka-kau kono haili moe o ka loa'a o Hawai'i:

"As she had hoped, toward dusk the clouds began to dissipate, and it was Teura who first saw the new island looming ahead. Gasping, she cried, "Oh, great Tane! What is it?"
"Look! Look!" shouted Teroro.
And there before them, rearing from the sea like an undreamed-of monster, rose a tremendous mountain more massive than they had ever imagined, crowned in strange white and soaring majestically into the evening sunset.
"What a land we have found!" Teroro whispered.
"It is the land of Tane!" King Tamatoa announced in a hushed whisper. "It reaches to heaven itself."
And all in the canoe, seeing this clean and wonderful mountain, fell silent and did it reverence, until Pa cried, "Look! It is smoking!" And as night fell, the last sight the men of Bora Bora had was of a gigantic mountain, hung in the heavens, sending fumes from its peak.

Ua pehea o ka loa'a o Hawai'i? I ka manawa o ka loa'a Hawai'i, ua hiki e 'ike i Maui, i mai Maui hiki e 'ike i Kahoolawe a me Lana'i a me Moloka'i, a mai Moloka'i, hiki e 'ike i O'ahu. Mainline Prosperity Blues Lyrics, Norm & Mimi Farina, 1964

Good morning, teaspoon
Teaspoon give me back my brain

Hello, reflection
You don't look the same

And good morning, sweet companion

Pardon me if I've forgotten your name.

Well I know the sun is shining

I believe it 'cause the shades are down

And I know the nighttime's over

Honey, nothing else could make that sound

And I know you won't be moving

Pardon me if I just hang around.

Well, society is rolling

Got to drive above a certain speed

Population's exploding

Gonna get you in a wild stampede

Well, companion, you'll forgive me

If I seem unwilling to succeed.

Now efficiency's the by-word

Everybody get to work on time

There ain't no unemployment

I believe I'm going to lose my mind

I'm listed on the censusBut I think I'm going to just resign.

Well, I'm only just a pillow, honey

And I belong in bed

I need a little soothing

Something soothing, kind of mellow for my head

They say I could be productive

But I think I'll just recline right here instead.
